‘It’ Chapter 2: Review

After the release and success of It, I was thrilled when it was announced that the second and final installment of It was in the making. This movie series, based off of Stephen King’s book It, is remade from the original movies in 1990. It: Chapter 2 came out on September 6, 2019, and was anticipated by many Stephen King fans.

If you are not a fan of blood or super gory content, then this movie may not be the most ideal choice since this movie contains a lot of blood. I for one, was very shocked on how much blood there was and even though it was a horror movie, there were certain scenes that included a lot of blood. Also, the beginning may be a shocker and be sensitive to many; including the LGBTQ+ community since it included a scene with a couple being attacked. I suggest that if you were to watch this movie, please be aware of this since it could be a sensitive topic for others.

Similar to the first movie, the Losers Club returns to Derry 27 years later to fight Pennywise the clown, once and for all. After recently watching the first It movie, I went to the theatre with high expectations since the second movie was deemed, “scarier” than the first movie and would be the final chapter of the Loser Club’s journey. The movie starts out with a couple, Don Hagarty and Adrian Mellon visiting the carnival at Derry who are harassed by a group of homophobic teenagers. The group throws Adrian off the bridge and leads to our first encounter with Pennywise. Mike Hannon, one of the members of the Losers Club, is the only person who stayed in Derry. Once he visits the crime scene, he calls the rest of the club; knowing that they had to come back and stop the clown for good.

The movie includes many jumpscares, gore, and an amazing soundtrack which adds to the horror of the film. The actors were phenomenal and their emotion helped convey the mood of the movie. Some lighthearted scenes were added to balance out the horror of the film. Specifically, the makeup used in the film looked super realistic and almost scared me by how real it looked. The makeup on Pennywise and other creatures especially added a more realistic, creepy effect and created quite a scare for the audience. The ending will pull on the heartstrings as it wraps up the movie series, the Losers Club’s journey coming to an end. This movie was definitely scarier and is one I would watch over and over.
